Regular bi-weekly just splits your yearly payments evenly into 26 instalments - the total annual outflow is identical to monthly. Accelerated bi-weekly takes half your monthly payment and pays it every two weeks. That's effectively one extra full monthly payment per year, applied entirely to principal.
On a typical Manitoba mortgage, the difference between monthly and accelerated bi-weekly is 3–4 fewer years on your amortization and tens of thousands in interest saved.
